Things to consider

Is your water pressure adequate?

Poor water pressure can often mean that the job takes three times longer, and sometimes even longer. This is made worse if there are two guys with a water blaster each, coming to complete the job.

If you don’t have great water pressure, please let us know in advance.

This enables planing ahead to ensure the right equipment and water supply are available.

We also have pumps we can use to get a better flow but need to know in advance.

For this to work your water the tanks cannot be too far away from the areas we are washing.

Does your water require power to work?

Many holiday homes rely on electricity to operate the water pump. If your holiday home will not have power on the scheduled work completion date, please provide instructions on accessing the power.

This helps avoid delays and extra travel costs.

If we arrive at a property and are unable to complete the job because we cannot access the water due to power outages, we will charge for travel and mileage to cover our costs.

We appreciate your understanding, as each job is scheduled with dedicated time and resources.

Roof Wash & Treatment – what’s involved, safety considerations, and when it’s the right choice

What's involved in roof washing? Is your roof is suitable for a wash? What if you are on tank water?
Below is a clear overview of how roof washing works, when it’s recommended, and what you need to know before booking.

Our guys will use a fall arrest system with harnesses and strops to wash the roof. They are fully trained at Working at Heights and using the fall rest systems. All work is completed to meet or exceed New Zealand health and safety requirements.

When we wash your roof, we will apply an industrial-strength washdown product that helps loosen mould, lichen, and grime, resulting in a much better end result. Many of the products available for this type of work are diluted and therefore do not produce the same end result as our product. This product is specially formulated for professional roof cleaning to achieve a superior finish.

After the wash is completed, we will apply a complimentary slow-release agent which will keep mould, lichen and moss away for longer. This treatment helps extend the time between necessary cleans.

We recommend an annual or biennial treatment after washing to prevent lichen, mould, and dirt from growing. This also lengthens the life of the products. Some roofs only need to be inspected and maintained every 3 - 5 years—it just depends on environmental factors and roof pitch. We're happy to advise on the best maintenance schedule for your home.

**IMPORTANT**
If you are on tank water, you will need to disconnect the tanks prior to our arrival. They will need to stay disconnected until there has been 25 ml of rain. If you need assistance disconnecting the tanks, please let us know. This protects your water supply from any treatment residues.

Cleaning a clay, slate or concrete tiled roof

As a general rule, we don’t recommend water blasting tiles, as they are often loose and can be blown off the roof, potentially breaking them. The gentlest and most cost-effective option for cleaning your roof is a roof treatment. Please let us know if you have tile concerns so we can recommend the safest approach.

Cleaning a pressed metal tiled roof

As a general rule, we don’t recommend water blasting pressed metal tiled roofs, as they are susceptible to denting when walked on incorrectly. They can also be slippery and dangerous. The gentlest and most cost-effective option for cleaning your roof is a roof treatment. Roof treatments are recommended for maintaining the intergrity of pressed metal tiles.

Washing Clearlites

Our approach to cleaning clearlites involves applying our washdown product, followed by a gentle soft wash. Lastly, we apply a slow-release product that works overtime to keep cleaning them. If the clearlites are old, unfortunately, mould gets embedded into the fibre, and we are unable to remove it; therefore, they are often far from perfect. Any mould that is sitting on the surface should clean up nicely. Clearlites can be more prone to staining overtime but this process achieves the best possible result.

When should you opt for a roof wash over roof treatment?

If you are getting your roof painted, it will need to be washed beforehand.

If you want your roof cleaned instantly and do not want to wait 12 months (sometimes this can be more like 6 months), then getting a roof wash would be a better option for you.

If you have a significant amount of black mould, a roof treatment may not always be effective against it, especially if your roof has a steep pitch. This is because the product we apply runs off too quickly and does not have enough time to properly soak into the mould spores to achieve a good kill. We're happy to help you decide which option is right for your roof and your timeframe.
